Izabela Kowalczyk – is an art and cultural historian, art critique and curator, holds Ph.D. degree in History (2001) and a habilitation degree in Cultural Studies (2012), works as an associate professor at the University of Arts in Poznan. She is a dean of Art Education and Curatorial Studies Department of this University.

Author of publications on critical art, feminist art, interpretations of recent history etc. Her publications include among others books: Ciało i władza. Polska sztuka krytyczna lat 90. (Body and Power in Polish Critical Art in 90.), 2002, Niebezpieczne związki sztuki z ciałem (Dangerous Liaisons of Art and Body), 2002, Matki-Polki, Chłopcy i Cyborgi. Sztuka i feminizm w Polsce (Polish-Mothers, Boys and Cyborgs. Art and Feminism in Poland), 2010, Podróż do przeszłości. Interpretacje najnowszej historii w polskiej sztuce krytycznej (Travel to the Past. Interpretations of Recent History in Polish critical Art), 2010 and about 250 articles.

She took part in the preparation and research for the exhibition “Gender Check: Femininity and Masculinity in the Art of Eastern Europe” (Vienna, Warsaw, the main curator: Bojana Pejić), 2008, 2009. She was one of the advisors to the PATTERNS-Lectures – ERSTE Foundation and WUS Austria (2010/2011).

Curator of some exhibitions including such presentations as: “Dangerous Liaisons”, City Gallery Arsenal, Poznan, 2002 (with Zofia Kulik, Katarzyna Kozyra, Zbigniew Libera, Artur Żmijewski among others); “Allure of Power”, City Gallery Arsenal, Poznan, 2009 (with Izabella Gustowska, Elżbieta Jabłońska, Zbigniew Libera among others); “Microutopias of the everyday”, an exhibition of the collection of Centre of Contemporary Art, Torun, 2013 – 2014; “Ethnographers in the region” (2014), presentation of ethnographic photography from the Archive of Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology of the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznan, 2014 and “Polish Women, Patriots, Rebels”, City Gallery Arsenal, Poznan 2017.
