Müge Yılmaz
Müge Yilmaz’s (İstanbul, 1985 – Based in Amsterdam) artistic practice centres on themes of safety, communal support, and faith. Through her use of performance, photography, and installations, she creates a feminist, science-fiction-inspired aesthetic. Her work explores the psychological, societal, and environmental aspects of three ecosystems in order to imagine possible future scenarios, with a particular emphasis on the concept of protection and scarcity. She obtained an MFA in photography at ISIA Urbino, Italy, and was a resident artist at the Rijksakademie van Beelde Kunsten in 2013 – 2014, Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Yılmaz has exhibited her work at numerous venues, including the 59th Venice Biennial (2022), the 16th Istanbul Biennial (2019), the 11th Shanghai Biennial (2016), the Museum Arnhem (2022), Wilfried Lentz (2022), Bureau Postjesweg (2021), W139 (Amsterdam, 2021), De Brakke Grond (Amsterdam, 2021), NEST (The Hague, 2020), and PERFORMATIK17 (Brussels, 2017). She has also been a resident artist at ACC and is an alumna of the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam.
Müge Yılmaz is one of the artists of the exhibition Scattered: Hidden Narratives Through Archives (2023) curated by Nesli Gül which takes place from 3 March to 16 April at Framer Framed, Amsterdam.
