The Amsterdam City Council determines the general policies of the City of Amsterdam and monitors if the College of Mayor and Alderpersons is properly implementing municipal policy. The council has 45 members. The mayor is the chairperson. A term of office on the council lasts 4 years and the current term is from 2022 to 2026. Every three weeks on Wednesday, the city council holds a meeting in the council room at Amsterdam City Hall. The meetings of the city council are open to the public.
