Exhibition: Metamorphosis Manifesting

You are warmly invited to the annual exhibition of the Open Atelier. This year’s theme, Metamorphosis Manifesting, invites you to explore the various stages and experiences that shape each artist’s unique creative journey. By focusing on the transformations undergone by both the artist and their work, the exhibition seeks to challenge the traditional emphasis on presenting only “finished” pieces, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the artistic process in its entirety. Metamorphosis Manifesting will open to the public on 4 November at 18.00 at Framer Framed.

The Open Atelier is a close-knit community of artists who meet weekly with the aim to connect, share ideas, and inspire one another, offering mutual support in their artistic journeys. For this exhibition, the artists of the Open Atelier encouraged each other to let go of the pressure to achieve a perfected final product, instead embracing the tender and sometimes chaotic transformations of materials, colors, textures, compositions, conversations, perspectives – and ultimately, of themselves. What can you transform into when given complete freedom? Where do your materials guide you? How do artist and artwork converse? How do you give shape to the fluidity and movement that characterize artistic exploration—and how, in turn, does it shape you?

Since 2022, the Open Atelier has been part of the Through Art We Care project – a project in which Framer Framed and care organisation Cordaan work together to make the art institution a place that promotes change, emancipation, and well-being through art practice.

Metamorphosis Manifesting can be visited from 4 November to 1 December 2024. Sign up here to let us know you’re attending!
