Nafiss Nia

Nafiss Nia is a Dutch-Iranian poet, writer, translator, producer and teacher of film and poetry. Nia studied directing at the Faculty of Film of the University of Art and Modern Persian Literature at the State University in Tehran. She studied scriptwriting at the Dutch Film and Television Academy. She regularly recites her poems at literary stages and gives poetry workshops. Nia’s first collection of poetry was published in the Netherlands in 2005, and her second De momenten wachten ons voorbij, in 2012 by Boekfabriek.

Since October 2012, Nafiss Nia has worked as a Director / main programmer for the Granate Foundation. Granate was set up to create opportunities for talented poets, writers and film makers with a non-Dutch background, especially (former) refugees, and to promote more cultural diversity in Dutch film and literature. The Thousands of One Stories event is the regular Granate festival that takes place four times a year in Amsterdam. She also teaches scriptwriting for television for young filmmakers in conflict areas like Iraq, Afghanistan and Iran.In 2015, she was a guest for the evening Narratives on Iran, organised in collaboration with Cineblend and Dancing on the Edge. She also teaches scriptwriting for television for young filmmakers in conflict areas like Iraq, Afghanistan and Iran.
