Arthur Steiner

Arthur Steiner is an art historian passionate about the role of the arts and digital tech in tackling 21st century challenges. Throughout his working life he has set up various initiatives at the intersection of Digital Rights, Contemporary Art and Climate Justice.

Most recently he worked at Hivos, where he was in charge of the global grantmaking program on arts and culture. During these years he was deeply involved in cultural sector building in North Africa, West Asia and East Africa. He set up Digital Earth, a research fellowship that provides support for artists and designers as they explore questions related to digital futures. It included an educational trajectory, a decentralized residency program, exhibitions and public programs around the world.

Arthur has curated several exhibitions and is editor at Vertical Atlas, a new atlas to help us navigate the digital geopolitics of the world today.

He currently divides his time between living in the Netherlands and Egypt.
