Installation: Roy Villevoye, Preparations
At the invitation of Director Meta Knol artist Roy Villevoye presents his installation Preparations (2009) in the hall of honor since 1890 dedicated to the fifteenth and sixteenth-century Dutch painting. The contemporary image of a black man with a rough wooden cross in his hands, the religious, late-medieval painting of Lucas van Leyden and Cornelis Engebrechtsz are being framed in a whole new perspective. Roy Villevoye combines the placement of his image with a presentation of Asmat ancestor skulls from Papua New Guinea, from the collections of the World Museum in Rotterdam and the Dutch National Museum of Ethnology.
