Since his student days in Bandung, Indonesia in the late 1970s, Yayak Yatmaka (b.1956) has consistently used art as a tool for protest. In 1999, he was pursued by the Soeharto regime following the circulation of his poster Tanuk until Rakyat, which led to his fleeing to Germany. During his activism with Komitee Indonesie, Aksi Kemanusiaan Untuk Indonesia and Indonesia House. he also participated in the landmark International People’s Tribunal 1965 (IPT65). Most recently, Yayak took part in organizing the protest in Wandas in 2022.

For Watch65 presentation Lawan! (2025) held at Framer Framed in Amsterdam, Yayak was commissioned to paint the centerpiece portraits of the ten exiles.
