Alaaddin Ammar
Alaaddin Ammar (they/them) fled to the Netherlands from Syria in 2015. In Syria, they obtained diplomas in psychology and communication and worked on creative practices with refugees in the Syrian Red Cross in 2014/2015, for which they received multiple trainings. In the Netherlands, they studied at Gerrit Rietveld Academy and volunteered at Secret Garden, an organisation for LGBTQI+ refugees.
Alaaddin engaged in LIMBO from the start on multiple levels. First, they participated in the LIMBO workshops and contributed with photography and video. Then, they became a space holder to provide social support, connecting mental health, social health and art practices, inspired by their voluntary work and commitment to the Seven Humanitarian Principals from the Syrian Arab Red Crescent at the Psychological Support Department together with the International Medical Corps.
In addition, Alaaddin co-wrote an article together with Fabian Holle for FOAM magazine which included their photography. They also (co-)facilitated workshops on collage, photo voice and food & stories, as well as introducing and instructing most of the workshop facilitators in the period of September 2022 until March 2023. Finally, they are currently building and uplifting the queer refugee community through collaboratively organised events that include techno dance, art and performance, inspired by the LIMBO approach, centring and celebrating queer refugees.
