Maarten de Kroon
Maarten de Kroon is a filmmaker and screenwriter. In 2014, he completed the documentary film LANDLOCKED, about the relationship between Moldova and the Black Sea and the short film NORTH SEA TRANSPORT. He started his career in documentary film as a researcher and scriptwriter, as well as directing and producing two films in 2013 during his artist residency in Moldova for the Dutch organization Satellietgroep. de Kroon premiered his film LANDLOCKED for the evening Exploring the Fringes of Europe on 6 June 2014, organised by Framer Framed, Satellietgroep and European Alternatives.
Earlier in 2013, he produced and made the short film TORRENTIUS with visual artist Jan Andriesse. In this work the story of the 17th-century painter Johannes Torrentius is told in one elongated shot. TORRENTIUS has been released on DVD, and has been released as an artwork in HD format in an edition of 3 pieces. It was shown in Brussels and during the Chambres des Canaux art festival in Amsterdam (2013).
de Kroon has also written screenplays for the many other films such Available About reading a book (1997), On the road (1998), Holland – Point of View (1999), Tahina’s first book (directed by Pieter-Rim de Kroon) and Hollands Licht (2003). More recently, together with Jeanne van der Horst, he made three artist portraits (Anish Kapoor, Fiona Banner and Roni Horn) for DE PONT museum, and a long documentary DE PONT MUSEUM – ROOM FOR ART in 2017.
