Grace Leksana

Grace Leksana is an assistant professor in the History Department, Malang State University, East Java. She obtained her Master Degree in Development Studies from the Institute of Social Studies and a doctoral degree in Humanities from Leiden University. During her PhD program, she was based as a PhD researcher at the Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies (KITLV). Her works involve collective memory, oral history, anti-communist persecution, rural politics, and decolonisation. She has published several works about Indonesia’s 1965 anti-communist violence.

Her upcoming book is Embedded Remembering: Memory Culture of 1965 Violence in Rural East Java, which hopefully will be available in 2022, published by Amsterdam University Press. She is now working on two projects on the left and food politics; and the establishment of an authoritarian state.
