Presentation: Documenting the Ecological Crisis Through Stories of Seaweed and Coastal Culture
On 5 September 2024, Framer Framed is co-organising Documenting the Ecological Crisis Through Stories of Seaweed and Coastal Culture, a presentation by the documentation and knowledge preservation project Seaweed Et cetera in collaboration with Framer Framed. The presentation will explore visual representations of the ecological crisis through stories of seaweed and coastal culture. It includes a talk, a showcase and a photo zine by members of Seaweed Et cetera.
Knowledge of the ecological crisis is unevenly distributed and the situation can be challenging to see clearly. Documenting the Ecological Crisis Through Stories of Seaweed and Coastal Culture is part of a documentation and knowledge preservation project that started in mid-2023 in Nusa Penida, Bali, Indonesia. The project, called Seaweed Et cetera, focuses on documenting the coastal areas and the slowly declining seaweed farming on the East Coast of Nusa Penida, Bali, using photography and graphic recordings. The project uses images to document how the ecological crisis unfolds, including the relationship between humans and nature, through the perspective of spirituality and the intersection of myth, folklore and firsthand experience.
This presentation will include a talk by Gatari Surya Kusuma, a showcase of graphic recordings by Ario Fazrien and a photo zine by Eri Rama Putra.
Join us on 5 September and let us know you’re attending here!
This event is in English and free of charge.
