Book Presentation and Workshop: They asked me to design a house, I asked them to design a home
On 30 April 2026, Framer Framed hosts the book presentation of They asked me to design a house, I asked them to design a home, as well as as its activation through a workshop, exploring the experience of domestic spaces through presentation and participatory workshops. The programme is organised by collective Common Ground Practice, consisting of designers and artists Georgina Pantazopoulou and Ilaria Palmieri.
They asked me to design a house, I asked them to design a home is both a publication and a collective research project that rethinks domesticity through an intersectional feminist framework. The publication is structured in two parts. The first part, divided into three chapters – From the Balcony, Through the Door, and Under the Carpet – brings together essays, conversations and visual contributions that question how domestic spaces are designed, narrated and experienced. This section is introduced through a visual presentation and short readings, offering a 45 minute overview of the diverse voices and perspectives gathered in the book.
The second part introduces the practical side of the project, including workshops previously conducted by Common Ground Practice, and concludes with Exercises, a section that invites readers to experiment with new tools for imagining and inhabiting home. This part is activated during the presentation, shaped as a participatory workshop of approximately one hour. The workshop is structured as follows:
- – Introduction and getting to know each other
- – Guided questions and short discussions about participants’ experiences of their domestic spaces
- – Collective mapping: visually representing these experiences on a shared sheet of paper
- – Interventions: each participant is invited to add (through drawing or writing) to someone else’s representation
- – Performative phase: using simple materials such as tape and paper, participants collaboratively build a three-dimensional interpretation of the shared space that emerged from the earlier discussions. Once the basic structure is formed, selected exercises from the book are performed.
