Savitri Bergraaf
Savitri Bergraaf (1989) completed her studies in Cultural Heritage at the Reinwardt Academy and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Art Education. She previously obtained her diploma in Spatial Design from CIBAP in Zwolle in 2011. During this programme, she gained six months of design experience in Australia and designed the CIBAP exhibition stand as her graduation project.
Savitri has extensive experience in developing educational programmes within museums and heritage institutions. In Suriname, she worked at Villa Zapakara, where she wrote an educational programme for families. For three years, she was project leader of the educational project Curatorlab at the Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar. In this project, secondary school students brought a new perspective to the museum’s permanent collection.
She was also involved in developing the educational magazine Bitterzoet and organised a series of discussions in the Haarlem library about the city’s history of slavery, based on the emotion network method. She also wrote an educational programme for the Plantage Alkmaar exhibition.
Her interests lie in themes such as multiperspectivity and unlearning. She likes to draw inspiration from artists such as Fred Wilson, whose work shows how context can change the meaning of heritage.
Savitri began her career in the heritage field as a second-year Reinwardt student with an internship at Framer Framed, where she worked alongside co-founder and director Cas in the office and collaborated on the very first exhibition.
