From Provo in 1965 to the alter-globalisation movement in 2005, action groups and emancipation movements have contributed to the radical change in the political, social and cultural climate in the Netherlands. For those who did not have access to established media, posters were the ideal medium through which the wishes, desires and demands of different social movements were communicated to the general public. More than 42.000 posters from the period 1965-2005 are stored in the archives. These include posters from the environmental, peace, women’s, gay, international solidarity, squatters’, alter-globalisation, student, anti-apartheid, anti-racism/fascism, animal rights and anti-nuclear energy movements. From the overwhelming supply, 7.500 appealing posters are selected. They are all depicted on the enclosed CD-ROM, clearly divided into 300 categories. The book contains 600 posters that can be considered among the most beautiful and special. They are provided with an accompanying text that provides a bird’s eye view of a turbulent and colorful period in recent Dutch history.
