Finissage: Between Fires – Irradiated Imaginations & Anti-Nuclear Solidarities
On 17 May, you’re warmly invited to the finissage of the exhibition Between Fires: Irradiated Imaginations & Anti-Nuclear Solidarities, curated by Fabienne Rachmadiev.
The exhibition traces the intertwined histories of nuclear infrastructures, colonialism and resistance. The closing event features a conversation between artist Inas Halabi, architectural historian Samia Henni and curator Fabienne Rachmadiev – followed by a closing performance by artist-duo buulbuul.
The finissage wraps up the exhibition by bringing different geographies of nuclear colonialism and resistance in conversation. Artist Inas Halabi discusses her practice and her work in the exhibition We Have Always Known the Wind’s Direction (2023), which probes the possible burial of nuclear waste and the presence of man-made radiation in the Hebron District in Palestine. Halabi will be in conversation with the architectural historian Samia Henni, whose long-term research on French nuclear colonialism in the Algerian Sahara forms the basis of the exhibition Performing Colonial Toxicity, presented at Framer Framed in 2022.
The conversation is followed by the closing performance of buulbuul’s The Burial of a Brown Goose, rooted in the nuclear-affected regions of Kazakhstan and based on a song by musician Junisbay. Through voice, ritual and a distored soundcape haped by contaminated soil, water and air, the work carries gried, rage and forms of generational care shaped by long-term ecological damage.
