Spoken Word: Queer Tales of Transformation
On 8 August, Framer Framed hosts an evening of spoken word, combining performances with an open mic. Queer Tales of Transformation, organised by novelist and researcher Laurence Scherz and inspired by MAISON the FAUX’s installation THE TAIL, explores how storytelling through spoken word can embody playful transformation.
Four spoken word performers tell their queer tale of becoming. Artist and musician Danielle Vorthuys dives into the darker side of fairy tales. Laurence Scherz explores absurdism and humour within (social) transition, followed by a performance by behavioural change expert and spoken word & performance artist Kevin Groen. Finally, Luka Prelas, winner of the Best Feminist Performance at the 2023 Queer and Feminist Poetry Awards, recalls a long, yet poignantly funny journey of medical transition.
Afterwards, the stage opens to anyone who wishes to share a short piece (max. 5 minutes). Please register here to attend the event and here to participate in the open mic.
This workshop is part of the initiative to open up THE TAIL as a space for queer and trans communities to connect, create and share. Framer Framed welcomes proposals from collectives, artists and organisers who wish to host public or community-based events in the installation.
This event is in English. Admission is free.
