Katia Krupennikova
Katia Krupennikova (b. 1982) is a curator and art critic based in Amsterdam. In her independent curatorial practice Krupennikova investigates how international artists respond to and comment on pertinent social and political contexts. She was the winner of Akbank Sanat International Curator Competition 2015. The resulting exhibition Post-Peace, meant to take place in Istanbul, was censored by the host institution; it subsequently opened in an extended form at WĂźrttembergische Kunstverein in Stuttgart (2017) and in Nest in Den Haag (2017).
For Framer Framed, Katia Krupennikova co-curated the long-term interdisciplinary research project Impossible Dialogues, and curated the exhibition It Won’t Be Long Now, Comrades! (2017) together with Inga Lace. Her other recent projects include Games People Play, Nest (Den Haag, 2016); INSIDEOUT, a special project of the 6th Moscow Biennale, 2015; There is Absolutely No Cause for Alarm, within a special program of the Unseen Festival, De Punt and Kepler Studio Amsterdam (Amsterdam, 2015); Women Commentators: Russia and Ukraine, National Museum Krolikarnia (Warsaw, 2014); My Joy, a special project of artgenève (Palexpo, Genève, 2014).
Krupennikova worked as a curator at V-A-C Foundation/GES-2 (Moscow, Russia, 2019âFebruary, 2022) and at Ujazdowski Castle Center for Contemporary Art (Warsaw, Poland, 2013â2014). Krupennikovaâs most recent curatorial engagements include Beyond a Certain Point There is No Return at Tale of a Tub (Rotterdam, The Netherlands, 2023) and Itâs OK…commoning uncertainties at Oude Kerk (Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 2021â2023). Earlier she curated the 11th edition of Survival Kit Festival, Being Safe Is Scary (Riga, Latvia, 2020) and was a member of the core group of curators of the Bergen Assembly, Actually, The Dead Are Not Dead (Bergen, Norway, 2017â2019). Katia Krupennikova is a founding member of Oo(y)ster mums collective and a member of the editorial board at Errant Journal.
