Jody Brand

Jody Brand (1989) is an artist working primarily in installation and art photography. She was born and raised in Cape Town and continues to live and work there. Brand studied history at the University of Cape Town (2008) and is committed to documentation of alternative narratives.

In 2011, Brand created a blog called chomma, where she showcases her photography. Her work has previously been selected for Simon Castets and Hans Ulrich Obrist’s project 89+, recognising young innovators. Group shows include Making Africa at Vitra Design Museum (2015); The Quiet Violence of Dreams at Stevenson (2016) and Being There at Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris (2017). Her first solo show You Can’t Keep A Good Woman Down was held at Stevenson Gallery in Cape Town (2017). Brand is a also recent recipient of an award by the Thami Mnyele Foundation in Amsterdam. Her work was recently featured in Aperture magazine. In September 2017, Brand presents the solo exhibition Chomma at Framer Framed, in light of Unseen Amsterdam 2017.
