Residentie: Lucía Madriz in Framer Framed Noord
From 9 June 2026, Lucía Madriz is artist in residence at Framer Framed Noord. Working with grains and seeds, she will assemble an installation on the field next to Framer Framed Noord, inviting reflection on the impact of transgenic seeds and pesticides on both human and planetary health. Until 11 June, everyone is welcome to visit Madriz while she assembles the installation.
After completion of the installation, Framer Framed Noord will host an Artist Picnic with Lucía Madriz, including a shared dinner and official opening on Friday 12 June, followed by a communal lunch on Saturday 13 June, with meals prepared by Karam Keuken and de Buurtkeuken.
Research encourages consuming organic products and around 30 different vegetables, herbs, and fruits per week to support our guts and strengthen our immune systems. Seeds play a central role in this, and in many diets around the world. However, because farmers are often forced to purchase patented seeds and chemical products after every harvest, it has become increasingly difficult for many to access a sufficient amount of safe and nutritious food.
Industrial agriculture has a harmful impact on land as well as its people. In fact, it is largely responsible for climate change and the harsh, violent conditions of agricultural workers. Because of this, Lucía Madriz states that societies must shift their priorities: away from endless growth and profit, and toward health, sustainability, and the protection of life.
From 9 to 11 June, Madriz will be working on her installation Nutrigenetic – a composition of grains and seeds made to look like DNA B from above. On these days, everyone is welcome to stop by and visit her between 15:00 and 17:00 at the open field next to Framer Framed Noord, while she assembles. The work will be completed by 12 June and on display until 5 July.
To celebrate the completion of the installation and open up conversation around the work with the neighbourhood, Artist Picnic with Lucía Madriz will take place around the installation on 12 and 13 June. Meals are prepared by volunteer residents from Karam Keuken and De Buurtkeuken, using recipes inspired by the beans featured in the artwork.
