Stadsarchief Amsterdam – The Amsterdam City Archives is the collective memory of Amsterdam, Amstelveen, Ouder-Amstel, and Diemen. The public can discover almost 750 years of documents, personal data, images, and stories with more than 50 kilometers of archives, a historical-topographical collection with millions of maps, drawings, and prints, a library, and extensive sound, film, and photo archives.

The City Archives is the legal archive repository for information of the municipality of Amsterdam to be kept permanently. The director of the City Archives is also the municipal archivist. The main task of the City Archives is to acquire, manage and make available Amsterdam archives and documentary heritage and to supervise information, based on the Archives Act. The City Archives monitors the requirements of completeness, authenticity, integrity, and accessibility of information. The information transferred to the City Archives is in principle public and can be consulted by citizens free of charge.
