As part of the 2026 ArtsLink International Fellowship, Framer Framed welcomes Palestinian artist, architect and researcher Areej Ashhab for a residency in Amsterdam, in collaboration with CEC ArtsLink and Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago. Mariela Acuña, Director of Exhibitions and Residency at Hyde Park Art Center, joins Areej in Amsterdam as co-host of the Fellowship.

Areej Ashhab’s practice engages with community land practices and material ecologies. She is co-founder of Al-Block, a collective documenting lost narratives of the Palestinian landscape through collective walking, and Al-Wah’at, a translocal collective working to counter anthropocentric and colonial narratives around arid lands and futures.

Across her practice, Ashhab explores relationships between land, collective knowledge and material histories. Her recent work considers ancestral knowledge and the ways it can be recovered and activated when intergenerational channels of transmission have been disrupted, working through language, song, material experimentation and collective making.

During her time in Amsterdam, Framer Framed facilitates Areej’s research and exchange with local artists, cultural practitioners and communities, creating connections around her ongoing interests in land practices, material ecologies and collective forms of knowledge.

The residency forms part of the 2026 ArtsLink International Fellowship, organised by CEC ArtsLink, with Hyde Park Art Center and Framer Framed as host partners. The ArtsLink International Fellowship supports artists, curators and arts leaders in developing community-engaged practices through transnational research, exchange and collaboration.

In 2026, Areej Ashhab is hosted jointly by Hyde Park Art Center and Framer Framed, with her in-person residency taking place in Amsterdam. Mariela Acuña, Director of Exhibitions and Residency at Hyde Park Art Center, joins Areej in Amsterdam as co-host of the Fellowship.
