Workshop: Ancestral Disassimilation, Somatic Abolitionism and Desire of Belonging to a Hegemonic Culture
On 25 April 2026, artists Anne Jesuina and Thais di Marco present a workshop on the intergenerational dynamics of assimilation, in which participants find ways, by moving and reflecting, to align with ancestral places of power and to learn concrete tools that support deassimilation.
During the workshop, artists Anne Jesuina and Thais di Marco, together with participants, share techniques, somatic practices and cosmological learnings that seek ways of connecting to ancestral anti-colonial knowledge and cosmologies while navigating hegemonic cultures. Participants can expect a brief introduction, somatic exercises involving simple body movements, facilitated conversation and sharing. It is recommended to bring paper and something to write with for taking notes, as well as a yoga mat if you wish to lie down during the session.
The workshop serves as an embodied practice, making make space for immigrants, marginalised communities, LGBTQAP+, ethnic minorities, climate justice, cosmic justice and decolonial activists.
