Hybrid Event: The Hmm ON A Lighter Internet
ON A Lighter Internet is an experimental hybrid event, conceived by The Hmm and Framer Framed. The Hmm invited digital anthropologist Payal Arora, artist Radek Przedpełski and cultural curator Faye Kabali-Kagwa to explore how the current internet experience is influenced by bandwidth access. How do we ensure that online film festivals and live-streamed programs become more accessible? And what does that accessibility really look like? Join the conversation online or by visiting Framer Framed!
Over the last few years, there has been increasing awareness about how the internet contributes significantly to the world’s global carbon emissions. The growing increase in internet use and the generation of more and more data does not only impact the environment, but also exacerbates the global digital divide. While the internet has been a solution, and a lifeline, to the many problems caused by COVID-19, it has also made more visible the billions of people worldwide who lack access to affordable and fast internet.
The Hmm has updated their livestream platform with four different view-modes, from high to low and very low res. And as an extra treat, discounted (online) group tickets are offered to stimulate you to watch our livestream together with friends.
The Hmm ON is a series of hybrid focus events reflect on playful, serious, and sometimes disturbing developments in internet culture. The Hmm ON a Lighter Internet is physically hosted by Framer Framed (Oranje-Vrijstaatkade 71) in Amsterdam.
The series is supported by the Creative Industries fund, VSB fund, and Amsterdam Fund for the Arts. Tonight’s experiment is supported by the program Innovatielabs.
