Tabaria Café

Founded in January 2024 by Fatima Mahmoud, Tabaria Café is a community initiative in The Hague, deeply committed to Palestinian and Levantine heritage, culture, and activism. Born a Palestinian in exile, Mahmoud’s personal journey to reconnect with her roots and her desire to create a space for Palestinians to unite led to the creation of the café. Initially started in 2023 as a small home café offering a simple menu to friends and family, it quickly grew into a cultural hub for supporting Palestinian voices.

Since its founding, Tabaria Café has hosted over 32 events, including pop-ups, film screenings, community gatherings, workshops, and art exhibitions. These events serve as platforms to foster cultural exchange and solidarity within the local and global community.

Tabaria also aims to challenge stereotypes, particularly those surrounding the MENA region. It offers a platform for marginalized MENA artists to express their stories, breaking free from limiting definitions and offering a more holistic view of the region’s diverse identities. Through storytelling, art, and cultural exchange, the café fosters empathy, understanding, and global solidarity.

In line with its commitment to the Palestinian cause, Tabaria Café donates 50% of its proceeds to Palestine, with the remaining funds reinvested into organising more cultural events and initiatives. As a non-profit organisation, the café ensures its mission can continue to grow, building stronger connections and support for Palestine both locally and globally.
