Janneke Stegeman is a theologian with a PhD from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where she researched conflict and power in religious tradition in her dissertation Decolonizing Jeremiah. Her work draws on liberation theology, postcolonial theology, and Indecent Theology—a radical, body-conscious strand of theology inspired by Marcella Althaus-Reid. She co-founded the Dutch Society for Indecent Theology (GeNOT). From 2016 to 2017, she served as Theologian Laureate of the Netherlands. Her publications include Heb Je Hem Weer (2017), Alles Moet Anders (2017), and her most recent book Uitverkoren (2024), which explores the racial and colonial roots of Dutch Protestantism.
