Chihyung Jeon

Chihyung Jeon is an Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Science and Technology Policy, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). He studies the intersection of science, technology, and society (STS). His articles and books have covered the relationship between humans and technologies, the entanglement of engineering and politics, and the culture of AI and robots in South Korea. More recently, he conducted research on the Anthropocene and co-authored the book Breathing Communities (2021), which examined the triple air disasters in South Korea—particulate matter, COVID-19, and heat waves. Since the Sewol ferry sinking in 2014, he has contributed to the official investigation of the disaster by writing up the final reports of the government investigation commissions. In so doing, he has observed the flow of Sewol data across different scales, regions, and disciplines, which was then combined, analyzed, and debated inside and outside the commissions.
