Yahmani Blackman en Dorothy Blokland

Dorothy Blokland

Dorothy Blokland graduated from the Academy of Theatre in Tilburg in 2014. Being Surinamese, her cultural background is very important for her work. With a great love for storytelling, she created two neighbourhood theatre productions at the Rotterdams Wijktheater during her studies with young people. In 2015, she made an adaptation of the monologue The Queen of Paramaribo: A Fallen Woman Does Not Exist after the book by Surinamese writer Clark Accord. She has been associated with Poetry Circle since 2015. Dorothy Blokland, inspired by the Framer Framed exhibition Re(as)sisting Narratives, created a performance with Yahmani Blackman for Museumnacht Amsterdam 2016, which was in collaboration with the Tolhuistuin.

Together with Yahmani Blackman, they form the theatre duo Blackman & Blokland, and in 2018 they realised the play We’re Going to Talk About Her under the final direction of Milone Reigman.
