Launch of LOOK: An Interactive Investigation Into Eye Contact
LOOK is an interactive audio installation and podcast about eye contact, initiated by Prosper de Roos in collaboration with multiple makers. The installation lets visitors explore what happens when you do or do not look at each other. For this project, people from the Molenwijk neighbourhood of Amsterdam-Noord, newcomers and refugees were interviewed about what eye contact means to them. Come to the official launch on Sunday 20 October, 15:00 – 18:00 at Werkplaats Molenwijk!
Looking at each other is not always natural. There are differences between age, gender, social and cultural context. Not everyone simply looks the other in the eye. Still, eye contact can be a shared experience where people come together. The project aims to make these differences audible and explores the unwritten rules when looking at each other (or not). The underlying idea of LOOK is that noticing each other can reduce the distance between people.
During the launch, visitors can explore the impact of eye contact themselves in an interactive audio installation. In the installation, participants are invited to look at each other while listening to an interactive sound set. The sound is controlled by biosensors worn by the participants. In addition, you can listen to stories and share experiences during the launch.
Free snacks will be provided by Karam Keuken.
This event will take place at Werkplaats Molenwijk in Amsterdam Noord (Molenaarsweg 3).
