the migrant kitchen

the migrant kitchen is a research-based project which aims to study and celebrate the food and ingredients used in the diaspora, as well as their various interconnections. This project, while connecting different cultures, takes special focus on African cuisine, particularly in Lusophone countries (Angola, Cabo Verde, Mozambique, Guinéa-Bissau and São Tomé e Príncipe) as a base for understanding the historical connection with the wider world.

Chef and founder Rita Baldé was born in Lisbon, and her experience and practices were profoundly shaped by life on the suburban side of the capital. Through this project, she seeks to create communities and bonds with those around her.
