Tanja Boon

Tanja Boon holds a Master in Contemporary History (KU Leuven). In 2016 she joined the Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art, Ghent (S.M.A.K.) as assistant curator. She assisted on solo exhibitions with Nairy Baghramian (2016), James Welling (2017) and Kader Attia (2017) and has since curated solo exhibitions with Ciprian Murșan (2019), Anna Bella Geiger (2021), Denicolai & Provoost (2021), Adam Leech (2021), N. Dash (2022) and Rose Wylie (2022). She co-curated the diptych exhibition ‘The Photographic’ (2017/2018) dedicated to a contemporary inquiry into the nature of the photographic image and ‘Splendid Isolation’ (2022) exploring transgressive artistic practices in relation to sanitary crises, (geo-)political conflict, cultural divides, and normative social constructs.

Tanja organised the discursive program of the museum anniversary exhibition ‘The Collection: Highlights for a Future (I)’and is also co-organiser of the Curatorial Lecture Series, in collaboration with Kask & Conservatory School of Arts, Ghent and University of Ghent, hosting a discursive program articulating pertinent questions in the curatorial field. At this moment, she is preparing the next museum residency program with Werker Collective.
