About the part that art plays in a globalising society

Framer Framed

Matthew Wang

In Matthew’s words:

“If asked to frame myself as something now, it would be a mover — of bodies and forms in space-time — channeling, as a medium would, different types of psychic and emotional planes together. Through a continued life practice, new or interesting organisations of living, study, care and love are realised, and shared.

Movement is method; I resist attempts to fixate or locate myself within convenient classifications. Situational exchange — with peoples, objects, spaces, institutions — is material fed back into this performative body, that morphs, and translates them into an act, a dance, a song, a thought.

What I bring into being with, and for others, are stories: of change, love, life, loss, my views shaped by the multifarious forces of global motion and rest, of forced displacements and desires, dreams and delusion.”
