Kara Walker

Kara Walker was born in 1969 in Stockton, California. She currently lives and works in New York. She received her BFA at the Atlanta College of Art in 1991 and her MFA at the Rhode Island School of Design in 1994. She won several awards with her art, among which the John. D. and Catherine T. MacArthurt Foundation Achievement Award in 1997. She has participated in exhibitions in for instance the Museum of Modern Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. She has had a big mid-career retrospective named Kara Walker: My Complement, My Enemy, My Oppressor, My Love, that travelled from Minneapolis to Parijs, New York, Los Angeles and Fort Worth from 2007 onwards.
