In collaboration with the Prince Claus Fund, Framer Framed is pleased to welcome Tareq Khalaf and Sandra Khzam as artists-in-residence of the Exchanges programme.
The first artist-in-residence Framer Framed hosts within the Prince Claus Fund Exchanges programme is Tareq Khalaf, a design educator, filmmaker and cultural activist based in Ramallah, Palestine. He is interested in the affinities, sensitivities and senses of belonging tied to Indigenous practices. Currently, he’s exploring how seasonal ways of living and community farming can affirm a sense of belonging and act as spaces of resistance. Tareq’s Exchanges residency takes place at Framer Framed Noord, where he develops a sculptural work that connects collective grieving, sustenance and annual ritual of the olive harvest.
In parallel, Tareq is working on the post production phase of the documentary film project Azziza: In a Cherished Land. At Framer Framed’s main exhibition space in Amsterdam-Oost, he presents the film through a talk and screening. The film follows the life of his great aunt Azziza over five years of footage, documenting seasonal living amid rapid urbanisation, the deteriorating political situation in the West-Bank as well as familial fragmentation – telling the story of exile from the perspective of those who remain and investigating the powerful bond that connects people to land and place.

Exchanges is a programme built by Prince Claus Fund to stretch the connection between cultural institutions and creative communities in Amsterdam, and artists and change-makers around the world. The residency of Tareq Khalaf is realised by Prince Claus Funds in collaboration with Framer Framed, running from August to October 2026.
About Framer Framed Noord
Framer Framed Noord is Framer Framed’s project space in Amsterdam-Noord, where local knowledge, collective practices and artistic research come together. Here, local residents are given the opportunity to develop their own projects, and artists collaborate with the neighborhood on work rooted in social themes. The venue accommodates artist residencies, art education, and resident initiatives, and is located in the social and cultural center Z369.
