Discussion: SCRIPTED AUTHENTICITY
Acoording to the French sociologist and media scholar Jean Baudrillard we are living in a society where we are culturally obsessed about authenticity. The reason is that this authenticity has disappeared because of the bombardment of media images, advertisements and ‘hyperrealities’ to represent a fake reality. The media profits from this ‘authenticity culture’ by making programs like Groeten uit de Rimboe, Tribe, Last Man Standing of Arctic Circle with Bruce Parry.
Tonight we will look at two film projects who address this problem. The movie Authenticized from Marijn Kraak, Reimer van Tuinen and Karel Poortman and the movie Framing the Other from Ilja Kok and Willem Timmers.
