Workshop series: Moving Love Think Tank Sessions
As part of the presentation Moving Love, Framer Framed hosts four Moving Love Think Tank sessions, inviting asylum seekers, institutional representatives and members of the public into conversation to explore the multiple perspectives that shape and are shaped by the asylum system.
Moving Love is a project by Impact Makers in collaboration with LIMBO and Skill School, for and by queer refugees. It aims to widen the focus of queer stories, which often centre on fear and precarity, by sharing accounts of hope in which love supersedes fear of consequence. Building on the conversations and experiences that emerge from the project, the Moving Love Think Tank Sessions invites visitors, especially LGBTQ+ asylum seekers, advocates, local communities, allies, policymakers and institutional representatives to imagine together what a more inclusive and supportive asylum system could look like.
Across four workshops, participants engage in dialogue, creative activities and collective reflection. By centring the experiences of those most directly affected, while fostering exchange across the different groups, the workshops aim to generate practical proposals, shared strategies and actionable recommendations to create conditions that support the safety, well-being and flourishing of LGBTQ+ asylum seekers.
Programme
Sunday 28 June, 14:00 – 17:00
Workshop 1: Mapping (un)safety
This is a closed session for the participants of the project and other experts by experience. Drawings, words and collages are combined to map feelings and experiences of (un)safety. This workshop is guided by Rochita and Mahyar.
Tuesday 7 July, 16:00 – 19:00
Workshop 2: Unraveling positions within society
During this workshop, a conversation around safe(r) asylum for queer refugees takes place. Participants look into the skepticism or hesitance within our society when it comes to this subject. How would we be able to extend the definition of community and opening our lives to welcome and include queer asylumseekers? Drawings, words and collages are used to imagine possibilities of offering queer refugees safety. The workshop is guided by Marielle Verdijk.
Friday 10 July, 16:00 – 19:00
Workshop 3: Start up preperations for possible lobby
Together with professional experts and policy makers, participants look at the results of the first two workshops. Based on this input, everyone is asked to formulate proposals to create safe spaces for LGBTQ+ asylumseekers. Secondly, participants think about how to effectively could campaign and lobby for these proposals. The workshops is guided by Thomars and Castiel.
Sunday 19 July, 14:00 – 17:00
Workshop 4: Reflection and Action
Together with participants from the former three sessions, this afternoon looks back at the input gathered. Based on this input, participants discuss how to deal with the current unsafe situation LGBTQ+ asylumseekers and how to formulate action points for a campaign and lobby to create safe spaces for LGBTQ+ asylumseekers. This workshop is guided by all the involved workshopleaders.
During all workshops a vegatarian meal is provided. As always, participation is free, but registration is recommended. To register, please email vera@impactmakers.nl.
