The Empathy Bar: Music, Stories and Poetry

On Thursday 25 June 2026, The Empathy Movement, an Amsterdam-based alliance promoting empathy, inclusivity and anti-discrimination, organises The Empathy Bar at Framer Framed. It’s an evening filled with music, stories and poems from national and international ‘empathy warrior’ and activists.

During this event, ‘empathy researcher’ Peter Bos from Leiden University explains what empathy is (and definitely isn’t), musician Duraa Boahene gives a live performance, and there’s a conversation with Marije Lieuwen from the Peace Now poster campaign. Afterwards, the ‘empathy warriors’ are on hand for a personal chat or a short performance. Participants can choose which group or ‘empathy warrior’ they like to join.

Featuring Saida Derrazi (Collectief S.P.E.A.K.), Jair Schalkwijk (Controle Alt Delete), Shirley Turner (De Regenboog Groep), Thomas Caarls (Amsterdam-based content creator), Eelco Biersteker & Erhan Can (de Gouden Mannen), Myrthe van Heerwaarden (Graphic Journalist), Margriet-Marie Govaart (Takecarebnb), Suzie Horjus (Tertium), Mees Deknatel (Stichting Urgent), Enzo Vassel (LGBTQIA+ Rights), Daniel Picado Sarmiento (País Plural), Hafsah Mujalli (Yemeni poet), Mohammedou Ould Slahi (author of the Guantanamo Diary), Duraa (artist) and Peter Bos (‘empathy researcher’ at Leiden University).
