Shahd Hammouri
Shahd Hammouri is a Lecturer in Law. Her research lies at the intersection of Public International Law, International Economic Law and Legal Theory in the context of the global south. She is currently finalising her manuscript on Corporate War Profiteering and International Law. She is a writer on the political economy in the Arab region, and has consulted across a wide range of international organisations.
Her current research takes on a critical approach to assess the discourse of business and human rights, particularly in the context of war. Her critical approach is premised on the study of second-level presumptions and representations in the ethos of post-structuralist critical theory.
Before joining Kent Law School, Shahd taught Human Rights at the University of Manchester and International Legal Theory at Sciences Po, Paris. Her legal education spans over three jurisdictions: Jordanian, French and British. She was a researcher and a consultant on international law at a number of civil society organisations including the European Centre for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR), Transparency International, Syrian Legal Development and HEC, Paris. She is a member of the Executive Committee at Lawyers for Palestinian Human Rights.
Shahd Hammouri is a writer on the political economy of the Middle East and North Africa Region, as well as critical theory. Her work has been featured on a wide range of platforms including Rehla, Al Jummhuryia, 7iber, Jaddalyia, Critical Legal Thinking, TWAILR Reflections, and EJIL Talk!
