Alejandra Ortiz

Alejandra Ortiz is a Mexican trans writer, activist, and community builder based in the Netherlands. Her work focuses on trans rights, sex workers’ advocacy, and migrant justice through different organisations as well her collective Papaya Kuir. Papaya Kuir is a lesbotransfeminist collective of Latin American migrants and refugees residing in the Netherlands. The collective operates with three pillars of work: advocacy, participating in anti-racist and anti-patriarchal discussion panels, and denouncing issues that threaten the community; emergency response, managing an emergency network for individuals requiring assistance in their migratory, gender, or sexual transit processes; and community building, initiating cultural and artistic projects such as queer cabarets, workshops, and parties to foster a sense of belonging and stimulate processes of social transformation within the community.

She co-authored reports on marginalised communities and co-founded the T-Huis, Amsterdam’s first trans safe space.
