Julian Isenia

Julian Isenia is an assistant professor in the Department of Anthropology, focusing on gender and sexuality in Curaçao. His research takes a detailed look at cultural practices such as archival collections and literature, theatre, and cultural performance. He explores their relationship with queer rights, tourism, neocolonialism, and historical legacies. He has been rewarded with an honorable mention for the Gregory Sprague Prize for his LGBT+ article on history. Aside from that accomplishment, he has produced a book entitled The Question of Dutch Politics as a Matter of Theatre and several other publications on LGBT movements, queer archives, cultural practices, and postcolonial intellectuals. Moreover, Isenia has also co-curated three exhibitions related to his research topics.
