Liselore Tissen

Liselore Tissen is a Ph.D. researcher at Leiden University Centre for the Arts in Society (LUCAS) – Faculty of Humanities – Leiden University and Materials In Art and Archaeology – Faculty of Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering (3mE) at TU Delft. Her research combines new technology with the humanities and concerns the impact of 3D printing on the art (historical) field and the moral and ethical implications of this technology. Through this theoretical and philosophical framework, she explores 3D printing’s significance in ethical debates (e.g. restitution) and the (practical) applicability of the technology for contemporary artists, (technical) art historical research, and the conservation and (museum) presentation of art with a specific focus on paintings.

Additionally, she currently works as an education and research manager for the Common Lab Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities (CLARIAH), part of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). Over the last years, she has extensively collaborated with various research institutes, museums, universities, and artists both nationally and internationally, such as Stichting Restauratie Atelier Limburg (Maastricht), Netherlands Institute for Conservation+Art+Science, Leiden-Delft-Erasmus (LDE) Centre for Global Heritage and Development, Mauritshuis (The Hague), Amsterdam Museum (Amsterdam), MuseumCatharijneconvent (Utrecht), Museum de Lakenhal (Leiden), The National Museum of World Cultures (Leiden), Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam) Fondazione Prada (Venice), Museo del Prado (Madrid), Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza (Madrid), Factum Foundation (Madrid), Mark Dion Studios (New York City, NY), Galleria degli Uffizi (Florence).

Furthermore, she dedicates herself to science communication, inclusion, and accessibility through her affiliation with the KNAW as Face of Science, as a scientific ambassador for the City of Leiden, by frequently appearing in media (newspapers, radio, television) and organizing lectures, seminars, and workshops. Besides writing her Ph.D. she has published numerous first-author articles and book chapters, has received various grants during her career, has co-curated several exhibitions in museums, and hasbeen or is a member of various advisory boards such as Europeana Tech & the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT).
