Lucía Madriz
Lucía Madriz is a visual artist working with installation, video, performance and painting. Her works explore environmental issues such as the impact of Genetic Modified Organisms (GMO), food sovereignty and our role in the Anthropocene.
She studied Fine Arts at the Universidad de Costa Rica (2000) and was awarded the Scholarship for foreign artists from the DAAD -German Academic Exchange Service- to study at Hochschule für Gestaltung- Karlsruhe (2003-4). Lucía´s work is featured in the book Latin American Artists from 1785 to Now, published by Editorial PHAIDON in London, October 2023, and one year later she was awarded the Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas Francisco Amighetti, given by the Ministerio de Cultura de Costa Rica and the Museo de Arte Costarricense.
Her work has been exhibited at Casa América, Madrid (2021); Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2018); SESC Belezinho, Sao Paulo (2018), Pratt Manhattan Gallery, New York (2016), Museum of Arts and Design MAD, New York (2010) and at the Centros Culturales de Espana in Central America. She has participated at various biennials such as 55th Bienale di Venezia (2013), 8th Mercosur Biennial (2011), Bienal del Fin del Mundo, Ushuaia (2011), I Cartagena Biennial (2014), X Central American Biennial (2016) among others.
