Presented at Framer Framed from 2 October to 12 November 2025, Remembering Otherwise<\/em><\/a> is a solo exhibition by artist belit sa\u011f<\/a>. Conceived in close collaboration with curator Katia Krupennikova<\/a>, the exhibition gives form to stories from a pivotal 1978 labour dispute in Veghel, North Brabant, led by migrant women workers from Turkey. These stories are brought together in a monumental tapestry, complemented by a multi-channel video installation and collages informed by the artist\u2019s archival research process.<\/p>\n

The dispute emerged when sixty-five women working at Veghel\u2019s onion peeling factory resisted exploitative conditions: erratic hours, suffocating workspaces with no ventilation, no paid leave, and wages calculated by the kilo of onions peeled rather than by the hour. Supported by organiser Leyla \u0130leri of Stichting Welzijn Buitenlandse Werknemers, the women unionised with FNV Voedingsbond, marking one of the first unionisations by migrant women in Dutch labour history. Through weaving, moving images, and collaged stills, Remembering Otherwise<\/em> transforms intangible memories, gestures, and sensory fragments into layered tactile and visual forms. sa\u011f reimagines the women\u2019s stories beyond the fragmented and decontextualised traces left in institutional archives, bringing forward moments of collective struggle and solidarity.<\/p>\n

Van 2 oktober tot en met 12 november 2025 is bij Framer Framed de solotentoonstelling Remembering Otherwise<\/em><\/a> van kunstenaar belit sa\u011f<\/a> te zien. Deze tentoonstelling kwam tot stand in nauwe samenwerking met curator Katia Krupennikova<\/a>. De tentoonstelling gaat in op de arbeidersstrijd gevoerd door vijfenzestig vrouwen in 1978 in Veghel, Noord-Brabant; het getoonde werk bestaat uit een monumentaal wandkleed, een videowerk, collages en installatie gebaseerd op archiefonderzoek van de kunstenaar.<\/p>\n

De vrouwen waren arbeiders met een migratieachtergrond afkomstig uit Turkije, die in actie kwamen tegen schrijnende werkomstandigheden: onregelmatige werktijden, werken in een slecht geventileerde fabriekshal, geen recht op betaald verlof en uitbetaling per kilo gepelde uien in plaats van per gewerkt uur. Met steun van Leyla \u0130leri, zelf een eerste generatie migrant uit Turkije en actief bij Stichting Welzijn Buitenlandse Werknemers, sloten zij zich aan bij de toenmalige FNV Voedingsbond. Daarmee schreven zij geschiedenis: het was een van de eerste keren dat vrouwelijke migrantenarbeiders zich collectief aansloten bij een Nederlandse vakbond. Remembering Otherwise<\/em> brengt solidariteit en collectieve kracht opnieuw tot leven. De tentoonstelling vertaalt herinneringen, gebaren en zintuiglijke indrukken naar tastbare en visuele vormen.
