Shapeshifters: On Wounds, Wonders and Transformation<\/em> brings together works by al-yen\u00e9<\/a>, Antonio Jose Guzman<\/a> & Iva Jankovic<\/a>, Georges Senga<\/a>, Kader Attia<\/a>, Kosisochukwu Nnebe<\/a>, Leah Zhang<\/a>, Pei-Hsuan Wang<\/a>, Sammy Baloji<\/a> & C\u00e9cile Fromont<\/a>, Mirelle van Tulder<\/a> and Anna Safiatou Tour\u00e9<\/a>. Together, their practices examine how colonialism has shaped the ways museums, archives and other institutions of knowledge are perceived and understood, revealing the (im)material scars imposed by systemic violence.<\/p>\n

This exhibition<\/a>\u00a0invites visitors to refigure one\u2019s own relationship to these power structures by stepping into relations built on curiosity and empathy. The exhibition title draws from science fiction writer Octavia E. Butler, for whom \u2018shapeshifting\u2019 refers not only to the ability to transform at will but to a survival strategy, an imaginative technology and a means of resisting domination. In the same vein, the artists in\u00a0Shapeshifters<\/em>\u00a0use their work as a device to unsettle fixed narratives, confront entrenched systems of power and open space for alternative ways of knowing, relating and being in the world.<\/p>\n
