This card game features 24 different artworks, from 12 artists from Turkey who live and work in the Netherlands. The works of the first generation of these artists – from the 1960s to 1970s – have largely been forgotten or neglected in the narratives of contemporary art history in the Netherlands. This playful, collective Memory Game creates space for these forgotten works while speculating on a future, non-canonical art history.<\/p>\n

The Scattered – Memory Game<\/strong> invites players to learn and explore this history by matching pairs of works from the same artist. Featuring works by Esma Yi\u011fito\u011flu<\/a>, Mustafa \u015eener<\/a>, B\u00fclent Evren<\/a>, Nesrin During<\/a>, Servet Ko\u00e7yi\u011fit<\/a>, Deniz Buga<\/a>, M\u00fcge Y\u0131lmaz,\u00a0<\/a>Kubilay Mert Ural<\/a>, Suat \u00d6g\u00fct,<\/a>\u00a0Merve K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7er<\/a>, Cihad Caner<\/a> and Ulufer \u00c7elik<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Scattered<\/a> is part of the ongoing research project The Impact of Contemporary Artists, who moved from Turkey, on the Dutch Art Ecosystem<\/em> initiated by Nesli G\u00fcl<\/a>. Using archival material, the exhibition investigates the shifting perspectives of artists and their connections to their own cultural heritage, their representation in society with ever-changing policies, and the influence of the Turkish diaspora on their artistic discourse. The main challenge facing the ongoing research project \u2013 addressed in the exhibition \u2013 is mainly scattered, fragmented, and \u201chard to reach\u201d raw information.
